JoAnn Gora

JoAnn Gora joined AGB Search in 2014.  Dr. Gora has forty years of experience in education and has held positions at every level of academic administration in both public and private universities. She has been responsible for developing leadership teams in universities across the country; focusing on strategic planning, marketing, fund raising, and building collaborative and effective teams. Her networks have been influenced by serving on the ACE, APLU and AASCU Boards as well as on the Council of Presidents for the Association of Governing Boards. 

Most recently, Dr. Gora was president of Ball State University from 2004 until her retirement in 2014. She led efforts to raise Ball State’s national reputation and the academic quality of its students. During her tenure, more than $520 million of construction and renovation changed the face of Ball State’s campus. Under Dr. Gora’s leadership, the Ball State Bold capital campaign topped its $200 million goal by more than $10 million and that campaign allowed the full implementation of Education Redefined Strategic Plan 2007-2012, the cornerstone of which was making immersive learning opportunities available to every undergraduate student.

Dr. Gora was the chancellor of the University of Massachusetts Boston from 2001-2004. During this time she increased admission standards and community outreach. Prior to her time at the University of Massachusetts Boston, she was provost and vice president for academic affairs at Old Dominion University and she also served as acting president in 1995, becoming the first female president of a doctoral institution in Virginia.

Dr. Gora received her Bachelor’s degree in political science from Vassar College. She completed her Master’s and Doctoral degrees in Sociology from Rutgers University.
